Honorary Fellow Dr. Matthew Potter, B.A. (London.), Ph.D. (N.U.I.Galway.) Research Interests: Urban History; History of Local Government; History of Limerick; Death and Cemeteries; Social Housing; Irish textiles; Local history; History of modern Ireland; The Anglo-Irish landed elite 1700-1921. Matthew Potter is Curator of Limerick Museum and is one of the most prolific and distinguished scholars currently working on the history and heritage of Limerick. His doctoral research was on Limerick statesman and reformer William Monsell, which resulted in the publication of a monograph in 2009. Later, Dr Potter spent a number of years working on the overlapping areas of the history of local government and urban history. In recent years, he has specialised on Limerick and has written on such diverse aspects of its history as the local government system, cemeteries, Limerick lace, and the 1916 Rising. Dr Potter has held a research fellowship in Limerick City Library (2003-06); an Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of History, University of Limerick (2006-09); and the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland Fellowship in in the Department of History Mary Immaculate College, Limerick (2009-11). He has co-curated exhibitions on Limerick in 1916; Limerick's military heritage, 1691-1918; and on the history of Limerick City and County Councils. He has also acted as historical advisor to various public bodies, including Limerick City and County Council and its predecessor Limerick City Council; Limerick Civic Trust; Limerick Chamber of Commerce; Roscommon County Council; the town councils of Clonakilty, Skibbereen, Boyle and Monaghan; and the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland.
