Music Theory
This year, almost all children participated in Musicianship classes, and we are thrilled to see the positive effects of combined Piano-Musicianship training. While it may take some time to develop advanced skills, many parents have noticed an increase in their child’s “musical intelligence” and confidence. The Musicianship faculty is extremely satisfied with the results they are achieving with the students. It is important to continue attending Musicianship classes while learning the piano in order to build up skills over time. We hope to see all of you back next September!

Do I need music theory for ABRSM or RIAM piano exams?
Yes. Both ABRSM and RIAM require a passing grade in music theory (usually Grade 5 theory) before you can take higher practical grades. Our theory classes prepare you for these exams.
Can music theory classes be taken online?
Yes. We offer music theory tuition both in person at our Dundrum studio and online across Ireland, in small groups or one-to-one.
Who are your music theory classes for?
They suit students of all ages and levels — from beginners learning notation to advanced students working on harmony, analysis and composition, and anyone preparing for ABRSM or RIAM theory exams.
Do you prepare students for ABRSM and RIAM theory exams?
Yes. Our teachers prepare students for both ABRSM and RIAM written theory examinations at all grades, covering notation, harmony, ear training and composition.
- Leaving Cert students
- Those already taking a graded Music theory course at another institution where they are learning another instrument (Doing music in school does not constitute this)
- Advanced level students, post grade 8.
- Adults - our adult students are no different from our children and deserve the same ‘complete’ training and we highly encourage them to take a class appropriate for their level. We have seen with our own eyes the blossoming of many adult students over the years, and can put much of that blossoming down to the Musicianship training they have been getting (along with their piano) However we also understand the work commitments adults often have and hope that they will join in as soon as they possibly can.
