Piano Lessons for All Ages and Abilities

Our piano lessons are designed for students of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re beginning your musical journey or advancing your expertise, our comprehensive piano lessons programme provides personalised instruction tailored to your goals and learning pace.

Why Piano Lessons?

“At the Piano Academy of Ireland, we determine the student’s level of interest and willingness to learn but we are not necessarily interested in assessing a person’s degree of talent before deciding if they are ‘teachable’. Most people will never make a career out of music but shouldn’t be denied a musical education. It gives us great joy to see students of all levels progress week to week while gaining in confidence & enjoying the process of learning! For those that show more ability & talent, our team also has the expertise, the drive and passion to inspire and steer them in the right direction.”
— Rhona Gouldson, Principal Director

Piano tuition is one-to-one and is offered to students of approximately 5 years old and above. Occasionally we may start a student that is younger if the child comes from a musical background, but it is usually best to wait until the child is 5 and has already completed some school and will absorb knowledge like a sponge. If a child waits until they are truly ready to start the piano, they will make speedy progress.

We find that one-to-one tuition is the best type of tuition to nurture the individual needs of a student. No two students are the same, and each will learn in a different way and aim for different goals. Our specifically designed programme is tailored towards the needs of each student. Individual tuition is the best way to use the time we have with a student, and to bring them to where they want to be.

Beginners will study with a beginner’s tutor book(s) for at least a year. These books will teach them the basics of piano playing. The Piano Academy of Ireland has many tutor books to choose from, and each will introduce the student to the elements of piano playing in a slightly different sequence, all eventually reaching the same point. Our teachers will work with beginners for a number of weeks without the books before selecting an appropriate tutor for the student. This process ensures that the teacher will get to know the student before choosing a tutor that will suit the student and stimulate him or her, but that will not go too fast.

Frequently Asked Questions — Piano Lessons in Dublin

How much do piano lessons cost in Dublin?

Fees at Piano Academy of Ireland start at €115.50 per month for weekly 30-minute lessons. Longer lessons (45 or 60 minutes) and more advanced tuition are priced accordingly. Full fee details are on our Policies & Fees page.

What age can my child start piano lessons?

We accept children from around age 5 for dedicated piano lessons. Younger children (ages 3–8) are a great fit for our Sharp Kids pre-instrumental music classes, which build the rhythm, pitch and aural skills that make starting piano much easier.

I’m an adult beginner — is that okay?

Absolutely. Adult beginners, returners, and hobbyists make up a meaningful portion of our students. Our teachers work without judgement and tailor each lesson to your pace and goals, whether you’re learning from scratch or picking up an instrument you haven’t touched since school.

Do you prepare students for ABRSM or RIAM exams?

Yes — we prepare students for both ABRSM and RIAM graded exams. Our teachers are experienced with both syllabi and will guide you on which exam board suits your learning style, availability, and goals.

Do I need my own piano at home?

A piano or good quality full-size weighted keyboard at home is strongly recommended from the first lesson. Lessons alone are not enough to make progress — daily short practice is what drives improvement, and a decent instrument makes practice enjoyable.

Where are your lessons held?

In-person lessons take place at our Rathgar studio at 71B Brighton Road, Dublin D06 Y497 — a few minutes from Rathmines, Terenure, Harold’s Cross and Dublin 6. Online lessons are delivered live via Zoom and available nationwide.

Can I book a trial lesson?

Yes — we offer a paid trial lesson so both you and your prospective teacher can assess whether you’re a good fit before committing to a monthly schedule. Contact us to book a trial.
