Clive Gouldson Award — Junior and Senior
The Piano Academy of Ireland is delighted to announce the 14th Annual National Piano Festival — our flagship competition celebrating young and adult pianists from across Ireland. The festival takes place on May 22–23, 2026 at Rathgar Methodist Church, Dublin 6, with the 20th Anniversary Celebration Concert on June 27, 2026.

First prize winner at the Tomassoni International Piano Competition, Cologne (2001). Has performed as soloist with the Sydney and Israel Symphony Orchestras, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and orchestras across five continents — including a celebrated performance of Liszt’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House, broadcast live on ABC Television. Studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Conservatorium & Griffith University Medals), the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow, and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Full-time faculty member of the RIAM since 2005 and a regular adjudicator at national and international festivals.
Mary Lennon
Festival Adjudicator
Dublin-born pianist Mary Lennon is a member of the Keyboard Faculty at TU Dublin Conservatoire. In addition to teaching Piano, Mary also lectures in music education and is involved in research supervision at the Conservatoire. She has wide experience as an adjudicator and acts as external examiner for music education institutions in Ireland and abroad. A founder member and former Chairperson of EPTA Ireland (European Piano Teachers’ Association), she has been active in the association both nationally and internationally. Mary’s scholarship embraces piano pedagogy, instrumental/vocal teacher education and practice-based research, and she has presented widely at conferences and published on these subjects. She was a member of the AEC (European Association of Conservatoires) Erasmus-funded Polifonia research projects on Instrumental/Vocal Teacher Education and Assessment and Standards, and is a peer reviewer for MusiQuE (European accreditation and quality enhancement agency).

Awarded to the winner of the Solo Etude Open category, together with a cash prize of €50.
🌿 Emerald Award — Best performance of an Irish composer in any category — €75
Presented to the best performance of a piece by an Irish Composer from any category, together with a cash prize of €50.
🎹 Bob Smyth Cup — € — €150
A cash prize of €100 awarded to the winner of the Piano Concerto Open category.
🎖️ The Clive Gouldson Awards
A cash prize of €100 presented to the Overall Junior Pianist — €150.
A cash prize of €200 presented to the Overall Senior Pianist — €300.
