With a shimmering trajectory in classical music, Lucy Byrne has been immersed in piano since the age of five. She began her studies with Alison Thomas at TU Dublin and continues to refine her artistry under the renowned Professor Therese Fahy at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Awards and Recognition
Lucy holds a DipABRSM in piano performance and ABRSM Grade 8 in music theory. Her dedication has earned her repeated places on the RIAM Young Artist Programme and the Eversheds Sutherland Accelerator Academy.
Her competition successes include wins at Feis Ceoil, Wesley, Pianofest, Newpark, Arklow Music Festival, and EPTA. Highlights include:
Nordell Cup (2023) – 1st place
Mabel Swainson Pianoforte Award (2022) – 2nd place
Rhoda Coghill Cup – 1st place
Ursula Uà Chuinneagáin bursary – recipient
She was also one of only four chosen for the William Finlay Programme.

With a shimmering trajectory in the world of classical music, Lucy Byrne has been deeply immersed in piano since she was just five years old. Originally trained under Alison Thomas at TU Dublin, she has most recently been cultivating her artistry part-time under the tutelage of the esteemed Professor Therese Fahy at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Holding a DipABRSM in piano performance and an ABRSM Grade 8 in music theory, Lucy’s commitment to excellence is evident. She has consistently secured a coveted position on the Young Artist Programme at RIAM, and further augmented her repertoire by being selected for the Eversheds Sutherland Accelerator Academy programme.
Her virtuosity has not gone unnoticed. Lucy is a recurring champion in numerous competitions, with wins including the Feis Ceoil, Wesley, Pianofest, Newpark, Arklow Music Festival, and EPTA. Her recent accolades include clinching the prestigious Nordell Cup in 2023, landing 2nd place in the Mabel Swainson Pianoforte Award in
2022, and securing 1st place in the Rhoda Coghill Cup. She is also the distinguished recipient of the coveted Ursula Uà Chuinneagáin bursary.
Earning a position among the elite four applicants for the William Finlay Programme, Lucy’s musical journey has been graced with numerous concert-playing opportunities. She has captivated audiences in celebrated venues such as the National Concert Hall, Tullynally Castle, Farmleigh House, the Boyle Arts Festival, and the Feis Ceoil Platform Concert Series. Lucy’s repertoire and technique have been further refined through masterclasses by piano luminaries including Finghin Collins, Phillipe Cassard, Hilary Coates, Michael McHale, John O’Conor, and Therese Fahy.
